3rd EFEF JIP WORKSHOP

The 3rd Workshop of EFEF JIP took place in Asker, Norway between 23rd and 27th November 2009. It was focused on the Explosion and Fire Engineering of FPSO.
The following areas of explosion engineering were discussed during the workshop:

  • model development for FLACS simulations
  • dispersion and explosion simulation results
  • design issues of LNG FPSO with respect to explosion hazard
  • conversion of CFD/FLACS results to design loads acting on structures, piping and equipment; preliminary study
  • probabilistic models of explosion loads, exceedance curves; preliminary study

Regarding fire engineeing, the discussions covered:

  • model development for KFX simulations
  • fire simulation results
  • the use of KFX for safe design and operation of off-shore production units
  • coupling between CFD and finite element consequence assessment of FPSO topsides subjected to fire and explosion loads
  • application of KFX-USFOS tools in the Fire Design of FPSO structures
  • conversion of CFD/KFX results to design loads acting on structures, piping and equipment; preliminary study
  • experiments - fire and wind tunnel tests; preliminary results

Hands on exercises in FLACS modelling and analysis were also carried out during the workshop.

Apart from the participants from Nowatec, Norway and PNU, Korea, the workshop was joined by Chistian Øverland from AkerSolutions, Norway and prof. Manolis Samuelides from The National Technical University of Athens, Greece.
